For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Polynesian Resort in Walt Disney World– it is a Polynesia-themed resort that is located right outside of the Magic Kingdom. It shares the Monorail Track with the Contemporary and Grand Floridian. If you are wandering around Magic Kingdom during the day this is a great spot to stop for lunch. One of our many strategies to avoid crowds is to go to lunch before or after prime-time hours for lunch. This means going before 11:30 am or after 2pm and usually the place will be mostly empty (fingers-crossed).

Once you enter the Polynesian from the monorail entrance, into the Great Ceremonial house, it will be located directly on your left. There is a nice sign welcoming you to the Kona Cafe. Kona Cafe serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and has a sushi bar right outside! You may have heard of the Kona Cafe because many guests swoon over their breakfast Tonga Toast– being the conscientious eaters that we are we have yet to try the sugary dish, however we have heard it is delicious! One of my favorite things about Kona Cafe starts with my love of coffee– they serve a French Press Pot for 2 with 100% Kona Coffee! It is so worth it, make sure you have someone to split it with because the serving size is for two, unless you need the extra caffeine!

For an appetizer the waitress brought us Sweet Bread with Macadamia Honey Butter. It was so good! The bread was fresh and warm, and the honey butter with the nutty taste made a great pair to the bread. For our meal choice, we kept it light with the Kona Salad. This salad is packed with seasonal greens, heirloom tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, macadamia nuts, goat cheese and a goji berry dressing to top it off! It was the perfect portion, both of us felt satiated and didn’t feel too full. It’s hard to find the right portion sizes when eating out, and this really hit the spot! The service is also spot on for Disney, kind, professional and helpful! We recommend the Kona Cafe!

Have you ever been to the Kona Cafe? What is your favorite restaurant in Disney World?
